Make Your Own Unique Cereal with Mixit #Giveaway

I can never find a cereal that has all the ingredients I want in one package that suits my preference and taste. Usually, I mix different types of cereals together and add in ingredients to make it my own, which is not ideal when mornings get busy. When I first heard of Mixit, I thought it is a fabulous idea because you get to make your cereal just the way you want it online! and not in the kitchen :)

The owners, Oldrich and Stephanie came across this idea in Europe when they were trying to find healthier food options for the whole family. They brought this concept to Canada making healthier choices accessible to everyone because finding healthy and tasty ingredients to create personalized meals can be time consuming.
I found the process of "making the cereal" simple, as I followed the instructions on their site. You press START and choose one of the healthy cereal and grains bases from their eight available choices and build on it by adding fruit, nut, grains and sweet ingredients as you want.
The nutrient counter on the side will tell us how much fat and sugar and other nutrients are in the mix. Some bases are very simple, so it gives us more flexibility, and other bases are more complex giving inspiration.
What makes Mixit unique?
  • Mixit uses the "freeze dried fruits" method, which is a process used to preserve food for long periods of time without losing any of the flavour, smell or nutritional content. When a fruit is freeze-dried and sealed to prevent the reabsorption of moisture, the fruit may be stored at room temperature without refrigeration, and be protected against spoilage for long periods, even years without causing shrinkage or toughening of the material being dried.

  • We have an option of suggesting nutritious ingredients we like for them to include to their list of ingredients.
  • We can stay as natural as possible, as Mixit uses few processed ingredients and offer lower fat and lower sugar products, as well as provide gluten free, high fiber and organic options. This allows us to have a choice of ingredients from the super healthy to the "kind of" healthy ingredients.
I like how each package of cereals and crunchy fruits that weighs about 550g to 700g are filled into attractive tubes that are about 27cm high. These tubes can be repurposed :) The total weight of the mix remains the same even when we add different ingredients.
Although, the Canadian Guideline for a single portion is 28g, I am sure we all eat a little more than that right :) so assuming 50g per breakfast serving one tube will get about 12 to 15 full bowls depending on what we order. I found that when you eat a combination of fruits and nuts with cereal it tends to be filling faster.
Mixit is made in a sterile mixing room in Montreal meeting all Canadian standards for food production. They deliver across Canada by shipping to our home or work for free if we buy 6 tubes or more. For less than 6 tubes, the shipping is $4.99 + tax in Quebec and Ontario, and $9.99 + tax to other provinces.
