Hibiscus Ginger on the Rocks

hibiscus ginger drink
We enjoy making refreshing, healthy beverages at home to enjoy during different times of the day. Mocktails, Punches and Shrubs book by Chef Vikas Khanna has many unique combinations of recipes to make a delicious array of beverages that everyone in the family can enjoy. The recipes include herbal infusions, teas, coffees, smoothies, slushies and more. I am glad this book has alcohol free recipes, and inspires to use a variety of different combination of ingredients that we don't always think of adding to our beverages.

To make this Hibiscus Ginger on the Rocks recipe from the Mocktails, Punches and Shrubs book you will need...

1 1/2 oz (45 g) dried hibiscus or rose hip flowers
4 cloves
4 tsp brown sugar
4 tsp green tea leaves
2 tsp fresh orange zest
2 inches fresh ginger finely grated
4 cups water
ice as required

In a saucepan, combine hibiscus flowers, cloves, brown sugar and 4 cups water in medium heat and bring to a boil. Boil for 4 to 5 minutes until the sugar has dissolved and the mixture gets the colours and flavours. Add the tea leaves, orange zest, ginger and remove from the heat. Allow the tea to cool and strain it. Refrigerate until chilled and serve over ice.
