Cookie Craft Blog Tour and Giveaway

I love decorating cookies. It is fun to decorate dazzling cookies for every occasion. Decorated cookies are a wonderful way to celebrate any special occasion, from baby showers to birthday parties and from weddings to holidays. I enjoyed learning about cooking decorating from the Cookie Craft book by Valerie Peterson and Janice Fryer. I liked that the book explains everything we need to know to make show stopping delicious cookies.
In this new paperback edition of Cookie Craft, the authors share their irreplaceable techniques for baking cookies that are evenly rolled and don’t spread, for making royal icing that is the right consistency, and for decorating like a pro. I like that the book is full of inspirational pictures of more than 150 gorgeously decorated cookies and helpful tips for creating them, the book also includes time-saving advice; planning checklists; design templates; four master cookie recipes (sugar, chocolate, nutty, and gingerbread); techniques for rolling, baking, piping, flooding, and creating icing colour palettes; and instructions for freezing dough and baked cookies and for packaging iced cookies for shipping.

This book gave me a nudge to make cookies with my children. I like that the technique that the authors shared made the process of making the cookies easy and fun. The Roll-Chill-Cut method made it easy to cut the shapes without getting frustrated with the dough sticking, I didn't have to add flour to the board or use any special equipment.

To make the cookies you will need
1 cup butter at room temperature
1 cup sugar
1 egg
2 tsp vanilla
3 cups flour
1/2 tsp salt
Beat the butter and sugar till it becomes fluffy and creamy. Then add the egg and vanilla and beat till it incorporates. Mix the flour with the salt and add 1 cup of flour at a time and beat till it incorporates.
Turn the cookies to your workspace and separate the dough into three parts.
Put the dough between parchment paper and roll it to 1/4" thickness and place it in the fridge for 20 minutes.
Preheat the oven to 350F.
Remove the rolled dough from the fridge and cut out shapes and bake for about 12 to 15 minutes this depends on the size of the cookie cutouts. The cookies are ready when the edges are lightly golden. Don't over bake or the cookies will become hard. The cookies harden when it cools.
Cool the cookies completely over a wire rack and then decorate with royal icing.
With designs for every holiday, special occasion, and season, cookies will be in the spotlight all year round. There are also unique gift ideas and recipes for delightful cookie constructions, including stand-up cookie place cards and easels, cookie words and messages, cookie boxes, and more. This is the must-have book for every cookie lover, beginners and the experienced.

  9. I'm in Ontario, Canada.

I've never really baked cookies before but I've started to bake muffins from scratch so I'm hoping that this will be similar. My kids would LOVE to decorate them.
