Condensed Milk Toffee

milk toffee sweets
This recipe for milk toffee is similar to fudge, and it is delicious to enjoy as a treat. We usually make it for special occasions and festivals.

1 can sweetened condensed milk

1/2 can water
1 cup sugar
2 tbsp butter
1/4 cup cashews chopped optional
1 tsp ground fresh cardamom or vanilla whichever you prefer

On a non-stick pan, pour the condensed milk. Pour the water into the condensed milk can and then pour this water into the pan. Add the sugar into this mixture and cook over medium low heat.

When this mixture comes to a boil, add the butter. This fudge or toffee must be constantly mixed using a wooden spoon while it is cooking until it becomes thick. It may take about ten minutes or more. When the colour of the mixture turns light brown add the cardamom or the vanilla and keep stirring. Add the chopped cashews.

When the mixture starts to becomes lumpy and comes off the sides of the pan, and is no longer glossy and is brown in colour transfer the mixture to the prepared buttered tray. The wooden spoon needs to be buttered as well to flatten the milk toffee and to spread it evenly.

Using a buttered knife make 1" by 1" squares immediately while the mixture is still hot. The thickness should be 1/2". When it is cool, it is easy to cut and separate into square pieces. Let it cool before it is stored in an airtight container at room temperature.

  12. Oh this looks so good!! And I love finding recipes for condensed milk! I bought a Costco sized pack of sweet condensed milk once and still have lots of cans left. We are just doing a clean out of our basement to put in a new room, so I am trying to clean out my pantry and use up some of our stock. This will be a great recipe to try!
